LUST.
No, that’s the name of this palette. Lust, by no other than WetnWild.
$4.95 at Dan’s Pharmacy. I kid you not.
I wouldn’t call myself a makeup or beauty snob. You could say that I don’t discriminate against any product because of its origin. But still, I know by experience that certain things (read: eyeshadows) should not be bought at your local pharmacy, ever.
Or so I thought, up until the exact moment I opened this little unassuming palette, while cursing under my breath at my total inability to stay away from pretty colors. Had I not learnt my lesson? Had I not spent enough money through the years trying to make drugstore eyeshadows work to feed a small third world country for a year, only to find out, AGAIN, that the colors don’t show up, that they are gritty or muddy or cracked or impossible to work with? Why, oh why, do I keep doing this to myself?
But then, I anxiously dipped my little greedy index finger into the first color: feels quite “creamy”, nice. I swatched it on the back of my hand: it’s so pigmented and goes on like butter! I checked the other five, each creamier than the next, with great coverage and excellent color payoff. Amazing. Speechless, I was. I could not believe that a palette that cost just $4.95 would have 6, count them, 6 gorgeous colors of such quality!
Usually, drugstore brands leave a lot to be desired when it comes to eyeshadows. Drugstore lipsticks, I have no complaints. Mascaras are great, and I personally wouldn’t spend the extra money on more expensive, department store brands. Now, drugstore eyeshadows… I have not had much luck with them.
But check this out:

Just look at how vibrant the colors show up on the skin and how opaque they are…
As a comparison, I managed to find my latest drugstore disappointment, in the back of an obscure drawer: Maybelline duo in “Sea Glass”. See how pretty it is? such beautiful colors…

I swatched them next to the W’n’Ws, and I had to do three coats of color to get them to show up on the skin at all…

Can you see them? Me neither… meh!
That’s the reason why I always thought you have to go to more expensive brands to get good quality when it comes to eye colors… and why I was so surprised to find such quality in a WetnWild palette.
Of course I’m not saying that these are the best quality ever, and that I will never buy Stila (my fave, at *gasp* $20 each) or MAC again. All I’m saying is for those just getting started with makeup, or those on a budget, there is (finally!) an option…
If you know me at all, you’ll know that I didn’t get just one, right?
This is “Vanity”.

And I did get one more, “Greed”, but did not get the chance to photograph and swatch yet…
Stay tuned, looks coming up very very soon…
